Joseph G. Acker

President

Mr. Acker was appointed president of SOCMA in March 2003.  Prior to this appointment, he served as president and CEO of DanChem Technologies and president of Hickson DanChem Corporation ( Danville , VA ).  He began his career in 1966 with Merck & Company, holding increasingly responsible supervisory and engineering positions. 

From 1976 to 1988, he worked at FMC Corporation, and held positions as Production Manager, Agricultural Chemical Group ( Middleport , NY ), Manufacturing Manager, Agricultural Chemicals Group ( Philadelphia , PA ), and Resident Manager, Specialty Chemicals Division ( Nitro , WV ). 

In 1988, he joined ChemDesign Corporation as President & General Manager of the subsidiary Specialty Chem Corporation ( Marinette , WI ).  In 1995, he became Vice President of Bayer Corporation and President of its subsidiary ChemDesign Corporation, ( Fitchburg , MA ).

Mr. Acker holds a BCh.E. from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an M.B.A. from Bucknell University . 

Mr. Acker is the immediate past chairman of SOCMA’s Board of Governors and served as its Treasurer and Vice Chair.  He is a member of various professional associations and serves on numerous civic boards.
